Mary Ann Schultz
Mary Ann Schultz is currently the senior manager of media relations in the public affairs department for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. Her areas of interest include appeals review, reputation management, crisis communications, provider and producer relations and health and wellness programs in the community health initiative. She has been in the healthcare field for over 20 years, first in the advertising department at the American Medical Association (AMA) in Chicago. She then moved on to the Science News department at the AMA and wrote and disseminated press releases for the nine Archives Journals as well as for the Journal of the American Medical Association. Mary Ann then spent seven years in the Marketing Communications Department at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago doing internal and external communications around patient care, physician innovation and emergency preparedness procedures. She holds a Master of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications from Roosevelt University, Chicago, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Business Administration degree from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
Debra Pierce is assistant vice president of marketing for Carolinas HealthCare. She has more than 20 years of marketing and public relations experience , most of it in the healthcare industry. Since joining Carolinas HealthCare in 2001,she’s been responsible for brand management, interactive communications, advertising, customer relationship management and sports marketing. She has authored several articles for professional journals and has been honored at the state and national levels for her work in both public relations and healthcare marketing.. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Tennessee. She is a member of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD) and Carolinas HealthCare Public Relations and Marketing Society.
Paul A. Szablowski
Paul A. Szablowski is the vice president of marketing, communications and public relations for Catholic Healthcare West East Valley service area. There, he is responsible for the integrated marketing and public relation functions, the Resource Link call center, brand development, messaging and business development, and strategy efforts. Mr. Szablowski has given presentations at a variety of conferences, including Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD), and the Health Care Public Relations and Marketing Society of America. He has a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Southern Illinois University.
Elizabeth L. Scott is the principal consultant for Raven New Media, a company specializing in new and social media integration for health care organizations. Raven New Media also offers web site strategic planning and a variety of tactical services that service the specific needs of hospitals and health care systems. Prior to founding Raven New Media, Ms. Scott was Associate Vice President of Marketing and eBusiness for Norton Healthcare, the largest health care system in Kentucky and rated one of the top 100 integrated health care delivery systems in the country. She created a new Internet strategy and expanded marketing services to include online films, social media, interactive online health resources and online applications for consumer and patient transactions. She has more than 16 years experience in marketing, interactive communication and technology. Ms. Scott has won numerous Addy and Web development awards for her work on Web sites for Norton Healthcare, Janus Investments, the Portfolio Center, SunglassHut and UPS. Ms. Scott has been a content strategist, senior project manager and director of methodology for an S&P 500 Internet consultancy, Sapient Corporation.
Bob Konold is partner, senior vice president, and group creative director at SPM Marketing & Communications. He joined SPM in 1995 after spending 15 years at big Chicago agencies, where at DDB Needham, he co-created the Energizer Bunny. Really. As SVP, Group Creative Director, and day-to-day supervisor of our creative product, he keeps SPM going and going. And winning awards and creating results for SPM’s 35+ hospitals across the country. Bob’s experience includes food, insurance, telecommunications, beer, sporting goods, and, of course, lots of hospitals. Bob holds an MS in Advertising from Northwestern, a BS from The Ohio State University, and was once a lead singer in a rock band-something his wife and three teenagers would rather he keep to himself.
Amy Protexter is the senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Alegent Health, a healthcare system in Nebraska and southwestern Iowa. She has been with Alegent Healthfor seven years and seeks to engage, empower and excite internal and external audiences with the health system’s story. Originally from Kansas City, Amy is a graduate of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD.
Brooke Tyson Hynes
Brooke Tyson HynesBrooke Tyson Hynes is vice president of public affairs and communications for Tufts Medical Center, the principal teaching hospital of Tufts University School of Medicine. Since joining the Boston-based organization in 2007, Brooke has spearheaded a complete rebranding of the organization, including a new name and logo for the Medical Center, a new logo for the hospital’s pediatric hospital, Floating Hospital for Children, and new messaging for both organizations. Before joining Tufts Medical Center, she was Vice President at O’Neill and Associates, a respected public and government relations firm in Boston. Originally from North Carolina, Brooke managed advertising and public relations campaigns for numerous health care clients during her term at a Charlotte-based advertising agency. Brooke is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Marty Campanello is a healthcare executive with more than 25 years of experience with a focus on communications, strategic planning, financial management, program development, physician integration, and customer service. He is a graduate of Radford (VA) University and has a master’s in marketing management from the University of Alabama/LaSalle. He is a past president of the American Hospital Association’s Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD).
Don Dalton is vice president of public relations at North Carolina’s NCHA, a statewide trade association representing 135 hospitals and health networks. He is responsible for public relations, media relations, and publications. He is a past president of SHSMD and the 2007 recipient of the John L. Thomason Public Relations Award presented by the Carolinas Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society. He has a Bachelor of Arts in communications from Mississippi State University.
Sue DubuqueMs. Dubuque is the president and co-founder of Neathawk Dubuque & Packett a healthcare marketing and advertising firm based in Richmond. Previously, she served as director of marketing and PR for Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport, News, VA, and CEO for the Puller Rehab Center, Gloucester, VA. She is a nationally recognized speaker on healthcare and service marketing and an associate professor for the Graduate School of Healthcare Administration at VCU. Ms. Dubuque is the author of A Parent’s Survival Guide to Childhood Depression. She also co-authored Kid Power Tactics for Dealing with Depression with her son Nicholas. She has launched a national campaign to increase public awareness of childhood depression. In 2000 she received the Award for Individual Professional Excellence from the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development and in 2008 she was named Woman of the Year by the Richmond YWCA for her charitable work. She received her Master’s degree in counseling from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from East Stroudsburg University, East Stroudsburg, PA.
Patrick Buckley is president and CEO of PB Healthcare Business Solutions LLC, a consulting firm that assists health care organizations with strategy, marketing and management. Mr. Buckley has worked with many of the leading health care organizations across the country. Among the clients for whom he has provided strategic consulting are academic medical centers, health care integrated delivery systems, community hospitals, multi-disciplinary physician group practices, physician faculty practice plans, and health care associations. He has over 25 years of experience in strategic planning, brand and corporate communications consulting, marketing, advertising, and strategic business development for the health care industry. In addition, Patrick is a recognized authority on service line marketing organization and marketing planning, particularly cardiovascular services, neurosciences, oncology, orthopedics, and women’s health.
Monica NasonMonica Nason is the product marketing director for HealthLeaders Media and for several markets for HCPro, Inc., parent company of HealthLeaders Media. Monica has been with HCPro for more than 13 years and during this time she has successfully led the online, strategic, and communication marketing teams, which promote all product lines and services. She has served as past track chair for the Annual Specialized Information Publishers Association (SIPA) Annual Conference for online marketing and speaks at their annual conference in all areas of marketing. Penny Richards, CPC-A, is senior marketing communications manager for HCPro, Inc., the parent company of HealthLeaders Media. She has seven years of experience in the marketing department writing promotions and campaigns for products in the revenue cycle, health information management, corporate compliance, and finance divisions. Prior to joining the marketing department, she edited two of HCPro’s monthly publications and a weekly electronic newsletter on outpatient coding and billing. She has more than 25 years of experience in the publishing industry and is a former journalist for a large metropolitan newspaper. Highlights of that career include a New England Press Association Award for history reporting; conducting interviews with national newsmakers such as Barbara Bush and Ray Romano, and countless local famous and not-so-famous faces; and being fortunate to have had a hand in covering a number of significant breaking news stories.
Gienna Shaw is senior managing editor for HealthLeaders Media, covering all aspects of healthcare marketing. She writes for HealthLeaders magazine, edits the HealthLeaders Media Marketing Weekly e-newsletter, and writes its weekly online column, Gienna’s View. She edits the popular “A Marketer’s Guide” book series, which includes books on brand strategy, physician relations, and measuring ROI of marketing campaigns.
